Houseguest is a new residency program hosted at Pioneer Courthouse Square (PCS), Portland Oregon’s largest and most accessible public plaza. Also known as Portland’s living room, PCS covers 40,000 square feet in downtown Portland and hosts over 815,000 monthly visitors.

Houseguest residents have the opportunity to reimagine this space through creative pursuits that vary from larger-than life-installations to spontaneous, intimate performances and everything in-between.

Successful applicants will consider Portland’s history, its citizens, its landscape, and its ideals in their project proposals. Houseguests will receive a stipend of $20,000 to implement their projects, working directly with Pioneer Courthouse Square staff and Portland community members.

When you’re a Houseguest, the space and people shape the experience of your stay. How will you respond?

Pioneer Courthouse Square seeks Houseguests of all stripes. We will be hosting four projects by artists, collectives and/or collaborators during 2016.

Each Houseguest will work on-site at the Square for a long weekend, facilitating relationship-based, socially-engaged interventions that inspire and catalyze interaction among PCS' diverse publics.
